Our Sustainability Policy

Honouring life's milestones—and the planet.

You have likely seen terms like sustainable floristry or eco-friendly practices used a lot lately. But what does that actually mean in the day-to-day life of a florist?

At Annie-Maiden's Flowers, sustainability is about the whole package. It is not just about where our flowers are grown or how far they travel, and it is far more than simply avoiding petroleum-based floral foam. It is about how we work, the suppliers we partner with, and how we communicate honestly with you—our clients.

Our Guiding Framework

1. Conscious Sourcing (Choose Better Flowers)

Choose Better Flowers Telford FloristWe are highly intentional about where our ingredients come from:

  • British-Grown First: We prioritise seasonal flowers from British growers to minimise our carbon footprint and actively support local biodiversity.
  • Responsible Imports: When design requirements or seasons require us to import, we only use British-based wholesalers who source from certified farms committed to fair labour practices and regenerative agriculture.

2. Circular Design (Design Out Waste)

Design Out Waste Telford FloristTrue beauty should not leave a lasting scar. We design with the entire life cycle of the flower design in mind:

  • Sustainable Mechanics: All of our structural mechanics and sundries are reusable, recyclable, or fully biodegradable.
  • Reducing Synthetic Foam: To eliminate toxic environmental waste, where practical, we swap out synthetic, petroleum-based floral foams for sustainable, naturally derived alternatives.
  • Zero-Waste Philosophy: All of our green studio waste is composted, and we limit the use of single-use plastics in both our packaging and our daily studio operations.
  • End-of-Life Guidance: We design all wedding and funeral flowers to be either reusable, recyclable, compostable or biodegradable, and we provide clear disposal and composting instructions to all of our wedding and farewell clients.

3. Ethical Operations (Invest in Ethics)

Invest in Ethics Telford FloristHow we run our business behind the scenes matters just as much as the final arrangement:

  • Resource Conservation: We actively minimise water waste, use energy-efficient systems, and avoid harmful chemicals.
  • Safe and Fair Workspace: While Annie-Maiden's is currently owner-operated, we maintain strict safety standards and are fully committed to providing fair wages and ethical working conditions for any future team members.
  • Continuous Improvement: Sustainability is a continuous journey. We actively review our progress and set annual targets to reduce our environmental impact year after year.

4. Transparent Communication (Communicate with Community)

Communicate with CommunityWe believe in open, honest education and partnerships:

  • Managing Expectations: We guide our clients to embrace natural, seasonal variations rather than forcing nature to fit a rigid, artificial mould.
  • Industry Advocacy: We share our sustainable practices openly to help spread wider industry standards toward ecological responsibility.
